TAX CREDITS FOR SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS

For several years, there have been available tax credits for the installation of solar panel energy solutions. These credits were scheduled to expire, but have been extended recently through the Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC), making the cost of solar energy much more affordable. Until December 31st, 2023, you can receive a 26% federal tax credit on the purchase of solar energy systems. As the legislation stands now, the ITC tax credit will drop to 22% in 2023 and be eliminated for homeowners in 2024 (unless reauthorized by Congress).

Taking advantage of the ITC tax credit greatly diminishes the effective “pay back” period on the purchase of solar panels. In addition, there are typically state tax credits and rebates that are available as well, depending on your location.
